Lettering and Design onto Jewellery
Lettering and all the multitude of styles and forms that they can take, is an art in itself. A single letter of the alphabet can be engraved in such a variety of styles such as floral or ornamental. Some extremely intricate lettering designs can leave you amazed at the brilliant artistry and sheer beauty.However intricate the design of the letter, the person that views the engraving must be able to see exactly what the letter is and though some styles of lettering are artistic, to say the least, it can be difficult to make out what the letter actually is. The basic shape of the letter, whether it is in Script,Roman,Old English or Block should not be lost amongst a web of intricate floral or arnamental engraving and time should be taken in the overall design of letters such as in the design of an entwined monogram.When starting an engraving , be it a large inscription onto a silver salver , a monogram onto a pair of cufflinks or a single initial onto a signet ring , the engraver will look at the overall shape of the article to be engraved and then decide on the style and positioning of the engraving that will best suit that article.
